Myth, Movies and Storytelling - strengthening KS2 children's writing skills through Classics

A workshop for teachers by best selling  children's author Caroline Lawrence

What do Paddington and Aeneas have in common? Or Luke Skywalker and Theseus? In a fun illustrated talk, million-selling author Caroline Lawrence shares how she teaches children about story structure, archetypes and tropes using ancient Greek myths. By citing examples from movies as well as books she inspires children who might not be great readers to believe that they can still be storytellers. After an introductory talk Caroline will discuss how she encourages children to write a story and demonstrate the sort of writing workshop she does in schools.

There will also be a short session exploring how Classics can strengthen other areas of the Primary curriculum, including:

· the cross-curricular benefits of embedding Classical culture and language at KS2.

· the potential of teaching Ancient Greek and Latin as a KS2 language option.

· the wealth of teaching materials and resources currently available.

· further free training options for schools keen to introduce Classics.

This event is free  for teachers to attend but early booking of places is recommended, as places are limited. To reserve your place please contact Alice Case info@liverpoolclassicshub.co.uk or book at eventbrite
